Noisy Badger Nights
Information for Comedians
So, you might be interested in performing at a Noisy Badger night? Well, that's excellent news for me (Hajar - like badger), as I'm always looking for fresh acts to entertain our truly lovely and loyal audience here in Surrey.

At the moment I run a monthly night at Cellar Magnifique in Woking, but I also put on WIP and preview nights at the venue throughout the year, which can help comics polish their acts, prepare for tours or test material on non-London audiences without travelling too far. I'm hoping to add more nights at different venues over 2024, so watch this space.

It's such a special night, but don't just take my word for it...
How very lovely it was tonight. Thank you very much for inviting me. Food, drink, great audience.
Perfect in fact.
Jeff Innocent, who performed at our one-year anniversary night in September 2023
Thanks again so much for having me. Was such a pleasure to gig with my friends and my girlfriend at such a lovely gig. A real Christmas treat.

About Comedy Magnifique
A Noisy Badger Night at Cellar Magnifique, Woking
Cellar Magnifique is an intimate, shabby-chic French style wine bar. Since being under new management, it’s weathered the pandemic storm and now puts on a range of successful events for wine and culture lovers in Woking and Surrey.
Noisy Badger started a comedy night at Cellar Magnifique in September 2022 and we now sell out all 35 seats every month, usually several weeks in advance, welcoming some of the brightest stars in modern standup.

AV: While there's no raised stage or stage lighting, there's a decent PA and a good wireless mic and you won't be short of impromptu material as you perform with a bookcase backdrop and chairs and various paraphernalia hanging from the ceiling.

We've welcomed some incredible acts who've embraced the intimate, quirky setting, while enjoying the warm glow of hospitality and a truly lovely audience. This is an authentic night all about human connection and the simple pleasure of good company, excellent wine and the pure joy of making people laugh.

How to perform
If our night sounds like your sort of thing and you'd like to perform, please email me a video of a recent 5 or 10 set so I can see where to fit you. We're booking about three or four months in advance and usually put on four acts over the night, although occasionally we squeeze in the odd additional 5 from newer acts. Of course we can't guarantee spots, and sometimes newer acts might need to get a few more gigs under their belts before doing a 10 here - we have a lovely audience, but they are discerning, and expect established acts who have a clear persona and tried-and-tested material. I don't offer feedback on individual enquiries (I mean, comedy's subjective and who am I to tell you anything about your act?) but, if you haven't heard back from me, it's either because you might not be quite the right fit for our audience or I think you'd benefit from more stage time. Please don't make me be specific as I'm still learning myself, but I'd encourage you to email again after six months of solid gigging with another recent video clip.

What we love
Standup, character comedy and sketch acts all go down a treat. Quirky is good, but too abstract or absurdist doesn't tend to hit the mark. We don't tend to put on musical acts who require instruments, mainly because of space, but we can accommodate backing tracks and the odd double-act.
Swearing and risqué material are fine, but too crude too soon may clench the room up. Our audience isn't easily shocked or offended, but they can tell when acts are gratuitously trying to shock or offend and will likely be more bemused than shocked. They're honestly wonderful, intelligent, interesting, supportive, and with rich stories and life experiences; they're completely on your side, so even if your jokes don't always land as expected, they're full of respect for our acts and want you to succeed.

Established acts with new material
If you're a well-known/very established act, we'd love you to try out new material at our night, so please drop us a line to set something up. We can accommodate opening and closing spots or put on one-off WIP nights just for you with a generous ticket split.
